On July 29, 2009 at 4:24 p.m. Carman area RCMP, Roland Fire, Central Region EMS and Manitoba Highway Compliance attended to a motor vehicle collision occurring on highway 3 at the junction of highway 23, 14 km south of Carman.

A south bound semi struck a pick-up truck that was turning west onto highway 23. Investigation and witnesses described how the pick-up turned in front of the south bound semi causing the driver of the semi to swerve and strike the back half of the pick-up. The semi then entered the west ditch and tipped, dumping it’s load of urea fertilizer on highway 3 and the west ditch.

The lone driver of the semi and the driver and passenger of the pick up truck were treated and released at the scene.

The driver of the pick-up truck was charged under the highway traffic act for turning when unsafe to do so.

Alcohol was not a factor.
