The Swan River RCMP have become aware that some local residents have been receiving telephone calls from persons claiming to represent the Canadian Police Association.

The callers, then go into a sales pitch, asking for donations to support community policing programs and claiming association with the RCMP. The caller may even reference specific communities within the local area to lend an air of credibility to their solicitation.

Another solicitation, claiming to represent the Canadian Police Association, asks for a monetary contribution for the Child School System to protect children from child predators. The caller claims that this is a nation wide campaign, and then may ask for a $100 dollar contribution per child sponsored. The caller may negotiate for a smaller contribution and then request your credit card number.

The RCMP in Swan River do not deliver any programs funded by the Canadian Police Association. The RCMP do not engage in, endorse or conduct telephone solicitations to raise funds for community policing programs.

If you receive telephone calls asking for donations to support community policing programs – you are at risk of being a victim of fraud. You may call Phone Busters at 1-888-495-8501 if you believe that you, or someone you know, is a victim of telemarketing fraud.
