On August 8, 2009, at approximately 6pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a complaint of a vehicle driving erratically in the northeast area of the city.

Police located the vehicle, a mini van, speeding and swerving across the road. Police attempted to stop the vehicle on Spruce Bay, however the driver sped up and drove away from police, hitting a parked truck in the process. The van then drove through private property from Spruce Bay to Oak Bay where they hit a tree, immobilizing the van. When police arrived on scene they were able to locate two suspects and take them into custody.

The investigation revealed that there were two other suspects involved as well, who were later located at Portage General Hospital. The four suspects were treated and released for injuries sustained in the collision.

Two suspects were released and are to appear in court at a later date, one was released without charge and the fourth suspect, the driver, was held in custody to appear in court. All of the suspects are male and three of the four suspects are youth.

Various charges are pending, including flight from police causing bodily harm, resist arrest, theft over $5000 dollars and mischief over $5000 dollars.
