Shortly after 10pm, September 4, 2009, the Manitou RCMP Detachment received a call from a motorist reporting he had come upon an injured male on the south side of Highway 23, between the entrances to Somerset and St. Leon, in the Rural Municipality of Lorne.

The RCMP, along with additional Emergency Services from St. Leon and Manitou, attended the scene and found a male, unconscious, in the ditch with a damaged motorcycle nearby.

The male was taken by ambulance to the Boundary Trails Health Center and subsequently transferred to the Winnipeg Health Sciences Center. As of the morning of September 8, 2009, the male motorcyclist, a 43-year-old from the RM of Springfield, remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at the Health Sciences Center.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by Manitou RCMP. However, the rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision and alcohol is believed to be contributing factor.
