On September 6, 2009, at about 9:15pm, a 911 call was placed by a passenger in a vehicle that had lost control and subsequently rolled on Road 49 west in the Rural Municipality of Lorne near Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes.

The vehicle was traveling on a gravel access road just outside Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes when the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The driver, a 15-year-old male from Notre Dame de Lourdes, who does not possess a driver’s license, was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. The male was taken to the Winnipeg Health Science Center where he remains in critical condition.

The vehicle passengers, one male and one female, both 16 years of age, were also injured in the collision and were taken to local hospitals for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Improper use of seatbelt restraints also played a role in their injuries.

This incident is still under investigation by the Manitou RCMP.

The 15-year-old male driver from the Town of Notre Dame de LourdesHe has succumbed to his injuries at the Childrens Hospital at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg on September 12, 2009. This incident continues to be under investigation by the Manitou RCMP as alcohol is believed to be a contributing factor.
