On January 2, 2009 at 8:11 p.m. Headingley RCMP responded to a report of a single snowmobile collision on the La Salle River in the Rural Municipality of Macdonald.

The lone male rider of the snowmobile was traveling east on the river and lost control of the machine coming around a corner. The snowmobile collided with a low laying tree on the side of the riverbank and the operator was ejected off. Emergency services personnel attended and transported him to the hospital with serious injuries.

A 25-year-old male from Oakville, Manitoba was pronounced dead at the Grace Hospital a short time later. His name is being withheld pending notification of the next of kin. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.

The investigation is still continuing.
