On September 26, 2009, at 1pm, Gimli RCMP were notified of a plane crash approximately two miles north of the Gimli Airport.

The pilot of the plane radioed to the Gimli Airport, reporting that he was experiencing engine problems and was going to set down in a farmer’s field.

The plane made a crash landing into a tree line in a local farmer’s field. The 63-year-old pilot, a resident of Stonewall, and his two male passengers, a 59-year-old male from Gimli, and his 24-year-old son from Winnipeg, survived the crash.

The pilot was transported to the Gimli Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and the two passengers did not require medical treatment or hospitalization.

The plane which was recently restored with a complete engine rebuild, was being flown for the first time today.
