Beginning Monday, October 26, 2009, Manitobans will have the opportunity, to purchase or lease unclaimed cottage lots from previous draws on a first-come, first-served basis, Conservation Minister Stan Struthers announced.
“Manitoba is home to some of the most spectacular cottage country anywhere,” said Struthers. “This program will give Manitobans another shot at previously offered lots before offering others a chance to enjoy the outstanding outdoor experience right in our own backyard.”
There are currently 319 Crown lots for sale and 36 provincial park lots for lease through the First‑come, First-served program. To ensure Manitobans are given priority in acquiring lots through First-come First-served, the program will be offered exclusively to Manitoba residents for the first 120 days. Effective Feb. 23, the program will open to non-residents of Manitoba.
The First-come First-served program will allow Manitobans to purchase one lot for the first thirty days with no purchase limit after that. All applications must be submitted to the Manitoba Conservation office at 200 Saulteaux Cres., Winnipeg, MB R3J 3W3. For the first two weeks, applications must be made in person. After Nov. 6, applications may be made in person or by mail.
“The cottaging program continues to receive considerable interest in these lots with daily inquiries in the last few months,” said Struthers. “By moving forward today, we anticipate significant short-term spinoff benefits for the construction industry and a lasting positive impact on local economies.”
A listing of all lots available along with a map, rules and other information related to this program is available online at www.manitoba.ca/conservation/fcfs_cottaging/ and at Manitoba Conservation offices throughout the province.
