On October 26, 2009, at around 11:30pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a report of a house fire on Long Plain First Nation.

On arrival the home was found to be engulfed in flames, with the roof collapsed. Long Plain First Nation Fire Department was already on scene battling the blaze, which eventually destroyed the residence.

Investigation revealed that the residence was a new home under construction and nearly completed. Neighbours reported seeing smoke and flames and called 911. The fire spread quickly and firefighters were unable to save the structure. The home was vacant at the time and there were no reports of injuries.

A damage estimate has not yet been provided. The Office of the Fire Commissioner attended to assist with the investigation.
