On October 22, 2009, RCMP attended Oxford House First Nation and, under the authority of an Exhumation Order from the Chief Medical Examiner of the Province of Manitoba, exhumed the remains of Bernard Hart in order to conduct further forensic examinations.
On October 24, 2009, a second post mortem examination was conducted at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Center with a forensic anthropologist assisting. Although the details of this examination are not being released at this time, RCMP continue to investigate Hart’s death as a homicide.
The remains of Bernard Hart are being transported back to Oxford House and released to his family today.
“D” Division Serious Crime Unit, Major Crime Units from Winnipeg and Thompson, along with the Thompson Forensic Identification Section are assisting in the investigation.
RCMP are requesting that anyone with information on the murder of Bernard Hart are asked to contact the Thompson RCMP at 204-677-6909 or Manitoba Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
