On November 18, 2009, at about 2:30pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a 2 vehicle collision near Oakville, Manitoba.
Investigation revealed that a 1995 Toyota sedan was traveling north bound on the 13 highway near Oakville, when it struck the rear of a north bound transport truck, losing control and rolling over several times in the east ditch. The driver, a 58-year-old male from the RM of Portage la Prairie was ejected from the vehicle and was found deceased at the scene. There were no other injuries.
Portage la Prairie RCMP, Ambulance, and Emergency Services attended, as well as an RCMP traffic Collision Analyst who conducted an examination of the scene. Traffic was detoured for about two hours before the highway was re-opened to traffic.
Witnesses report good road conditions at the time of the collision. Speed and alcohol are considered to be factors at this time.
RCMP remind motorists that seatbelt use is mandatory, and can save lives in a collision.
Police continue to investigate.
