RCMP are investigating numerous uncontrolled grass and bale fires that were deliberately started by suspects near the community of Elm Creek, since early this month.

At least 9 fires, close to Highway 2 and Highway 13, have been reported to the Carman RCMP since November 11, 2009. The Elm Creek Fire Department attended some of these fires and local area farmers extinguished others. These fires have been started in dead grass along roads and on private property to farmer’s bales.

The last incident occurred on November 22, 2009 when the Elm Creek Fire Department and Carman RCMP attended to a grass fire 2 miles west and a 1/2 mile north of Elm Creek.

Police are requesting the public’s assistance. If any person should have information on this or any other arson fires, they are asked to call the Carman RCMP at 204-745-6760 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
