On the heels of the police members from the Ste. Anne Police Department’s resigning, the RM of Tache has decided they would like to see the RCMP move into the Town of Sre. Anne with a detachment office.
According to Tache council, it makes sense that since the RCMP keeps inheriting the Ste. Anne jurisdiction, the province should seriously consider establishing a new detachment in Ste. Anne.
Council noted that the RM of Tache, in particular their communities of Ste. Genevieve and Ross would benefit by such an expansion because of limited coverage currently offered by the already overextended St. Pierre RCMP detachment.
The RM of Tache has taken their request to the Minister of Justice. They have asked the minister to consider the establishment of an RCMP detachment, then shifting the jurisdiction for policing in Ross and Ste. Genevieve to the new detachment.
