On December 9, 2009, at 7pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP, Portage Emergency Services, and EMS responded to a two vehicle collision at the Co-op gas bar located at 2275 Saskatchewan Avenue West in Portage la Prairie.
Investigation revealed that a 2004 Oldsmobile Alero struck a 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche which was parked and in the process of being fueled.
A 49-year-old man from Sandy Bay First Nation was standing outside fueling the Avalanche at the time of the collision. He sustained non life threatening injuries and was transported to Portage District General Hospital for treatment.
The driver of the Oldsmobile Alero, a 25-year-old man from Brandon, Manitoba, was charged under the Highway Traffic Act.
There were no other injuries reported, and no report of hazardous material spills.
RCMP remind motorists to use extra caution with the cold weather and drive according to road conditions.
