A 59-year-old Nelson House resident is at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Centre where he remains in grave condition after being found unresponsive in cells at the RCMP Nelson House Detachment.

On December 30, 2009, at about 6:45pm, RCMP Nelson House members were called to the local VLT facility to respond to a call of an intoxicated individual passed out in the lobby area. RCMP members attended and noted that the individual was unresponsive, his breathing was shallow and his complexion was pale. Local EMS was contacted and the individual was transported to the Nelson House Nursing Station.

Later that evening, members received a second call that this individual was now causing a disturbance at the Nursing Station. RCMP attended the Nursing Station and at about 10:15 pm, the 59-year-old local male was arrested by RCMP members without incident. Some time after being lodged in RCMP cells, he was noted to be unresponsive.

Emergency Medical Services were called and he was transported back to the Nelson House Nursing Station and subsequently flown to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg where he remains in grave condition.
