On January 11, 2010 at about 7pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP responded to a two vehicle collision on the Trans Canada Highway near Road 18 West in Portage la Prairie.
Portage la Prairie Emergency Services and Regional Health Authority EMS were on scene attending to injured persons.
Investigation revealed that a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck had been going the wrong direction on the Trans Canada Highway, traveling east bound in the west bound lanes.
The pick up truck struck a west bound 2008 Toyota Rav4 being driven by a 61-year-old man, with a 61-year-old female passenger, both from Portage la Prairie. Both were examined by paramedics at the scene and released without further medical treatment.
The driver of the Chevrolet pick up truck, a 38-year-old woman from Winnipeg, was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle, as well as offences under the Highway Traffic Act. She was released with documents to appear in Portage la Prairie Provincial Court in March, 2010.
There were no other injuries reported, and no other vehicles involved.
Police continue to investigate.
