On February 20, 2010, at about 12am, Portage La Prairie RCMP observed a blue Ford Explorer with a burned out headlight on Scott Avenue and Provincial Road 240 in Portage la Prairie.

Police activated emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle with no success. A short time later, the vehicle was found on it’s roof in the ditch at the intersection of Road 41 West and Road 64 North.

RCMP also reported that 4 mailboxes were damaged from the single vehicle collision with an estimated damage amount of $500.

Investigation revealed that the driver, 26-year-old, Nicholas Robert Heintz of a Portage la Prairie, did not hold a valid driver’s licence and the vehicle was not registered.

Heintz was transported by EMS to Portage la Prairie General Hospital with minor injuries and has since been released.

Heintz has been charged under the Highway Traffic Act with drive carelessly, drive without liability insurance, drive unregistered vehicle, drive with invalid license, drive without motor vehicle insurance and for failing to stop and remain stopped when signaled by peace officer.

Heintz will appear in Portage la Prairie Court on March 29, 2010.
