On February 26, 2010, at about 10:20pm, RCMP members from Oakbank Detachment where on patrol when they came across a collision involving a car with 3 occupants.

RCMP East St. Paul also attended the scene and learned that a Dodge Stealth, while traveling southbound on Highway 59, collided with an eastbound transport truck, which had left the scene.

The transport truck was later located at Deacon’s Corner on Highway 1. The driver of the truck, a 55-year-old man from Mississauga, Ontario, has been charged with failing to leave particulars/leave the scene of an accident under the Highway Traffic Act.

Early indications are that the driver of the car failed to stop for a red light while traveling southbound on Highway 59 and collided with the eastbound transport truck on Highway 101 through the intersection. The transport truck driver stopped a short distance from the collision scene but left the scene without providing particulars.

The three female occupants of the Dodge Stealth, all from Winnipeg, received aid at the scene by an off-duty nurse and paramedic and were then taken to hospital. The 20-year-old female driver suffered non-life threatening injuries. She was later released from hospital and arrested for impaired driving. She will be facing charges of operating a motor vehicle over .08 and impaired driving causing bodily harm. She was later released on a promise to appear and will be appearing in Winnipeg Court on April 9, 2010.

One of the female passengers remains in hospital in critical condition while the other female passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries and has since been released from hospital.

The investigation is continuing.
