On March 15, 2010, at 12:50pm, Brandon RCMP were called to a robbery that had occurred at Stahl’s Food Mart in the Town of Alexander, Manitoba.
Police investigation revealed that 4 subjects described as young native males had entered Stahl’s Food Mart and were hanging around in the store. The subjects appeared to be shopping but once all the other patrons left the business, one of the subjects grabbed some liquor from one of the shelves and exited the store. The clerk confronted the other 3 youths at which point she was informed this was a robbery. The subjects proceeded to steal an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. The other two subjects then ordered the clerk to the floor and told her to stay there and not to come after them and call the Police. The 3 subjects then grabbed as much liquor as they could carry and left the store to the awaiting get away vehicle.
Police investigation revealed that the subjects departed towards the Sioux Valley First Nation in a car that was stolen from the City of Brandon earlier that morning. RCMP Brandon Detachment with the assistance of the Brandon Police Service, Dakota Ojibway Police Service, and units from RCMP Westman Detachment, RCMP Westman Highway Patrol and RCMP Brandon Major Crime Unit assisted with road blocks and the investigation.
Police were able to track the subjects to Sioux Valley FN where they were found to have attended to the Gas bar and made purchases at this location. Through the use of video surveillance at the gas bar police were able to determine who the subjects were.
At 5pm, police received a tip that these subjects were held up in a residence on McDonald Avenue in the City of Brandon. Brandon Police Service and members of the Brandon Detachment attended to this location and the four subjects were taken into custody without incident. Three of the subject are youths aged 14, 16 and 17 and the fourth subject is 19-year-old and resident of Brandon. Due to the fact that the 19-year-old male is closely related to two of the youths, he will not be identified.
The 14 and 17-year-old male youths were escapees from the Dojack Youth Detention Center in Regina Saskatchewan and had Canada Wide Warrants out for their arrest. The 15-year-old male youth is from the Sioux Valley First Nation.
All the subjects have been incarcerated at the Brandon Correctional Institute and appeared in Brandon Court on March 16, 2010.
The 4 individuals have been charged with robbery with violence and Police are continuing their investigation.
