Twenty-seven Manitoba schools are receiving a portion of a $10,000 grant for special music projects and events in April, which is Celebrating Music in Manitoba Schools month, Education Minister Nancy Allan announced.
“Music education is very important to a student’s development, contributing to a lifelong appreciation for the arts,” Allan said. “The music grants schools receive from the province are used to enhance regular curriculum through special projects and activities throughout April.”
Celebrating Music in Manitoba Schools grants give students and teachers the opportunity to work with professional musicians and also share their musical performances at both the school and community level.
This year, 541 students from across the province will perform instrumental music and songs at the Legislative Building on April 7, 14 and 21 and May 5 between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The concert series is presented through a partnership between Manitoba Education and the Manitoba Music Educators’ Association.
“Manitobans are known for their love of music and their ability to recognize and encourage talent, which has resulted in our having many performers known at the local, national and international level,” Allan said. “I encourage all Manitobans to support students as they share their gift of music with us in communities and schools across the province.”
