On April 23, 2010, at approximately 4:30pm, Ste Rose du Lac RCMP officers conducted a traffic stop of a Blue 2006 Dodge Caravan on Frontage Road in the town of Ste. Rose du Lac.
Officers located a Glock 9mm handgun with ammunition inside the vehicle as the vehicle was searched and the male driver and male passenger were placed under arrest.
36-year-old Kristopher Miller, of Portage la Prairie, has been charged with possessing a prohibited firearm with ammunition, possessing a firearm with removed serial number and occupying a vehicle containing a prohibited weapon. Miller appeared before a justice and was released on his recognizance.
27-year-old Shane Prince, of Dakota Tipi First Nation, has been charged with possessing a firearm while prohibited, possessing a prohibited firearm with ammunition, possessing a firearm with removed serial number and occupying a vehicle containing a prohibited weapon. Prince remains in custody and is scheduled to appear at the Dauphin Court Office April 26, 2010.
The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending.
