On April 25, 2010, at about 10:40am, RCMP responded to a cabin fire at the Riverside Lodge in the Community of Duck Bay.
RCMP Winnipegosis Detachment were on scene, along with the Duck Bay and Camperville Fire Departments. RCMP report that the main cabin was on fire and the fire was spreading to nearby cabins.
Despite efforts to control the blaze, damage to the main lodge, a mobile home, hunting cabins and several sheds burned down leaving only 3 cabins standing. Complete damage estimates are unavailable, however, preliminary damage estimates indicate that the losses are in excess of $500,000.
RCMP report that no one was injured in the blaze.
RCMP, with the assistance of the Manitoba Fire Commissioner, continue to investigate.
The cause of the fire is undetermined at present.
