The Honourable Vic Toews, Public Safety Minister and Member of Parliament for Provencher was encouraged by Statistics Canada report on job numbers.
The report showed that a record 108,700 new jobs were created in April which lowered Canada’s unemployment rate to 8.1%.
“This is the largest monthly job gain on record and this shows that Canada’s Economic Action Plan is working,” said Minister Toews. “By protecting families and communities from the global recession and putting forth a plan for future prosperity and balanced budgets that don’t raise taxes, our Government will continue to lead the way on economic recovery.”
The report continues on strong numbers in March when Statistics Canada reported that the unemployment rate remained steady at 8.2% and employment increased by close to 18,000 new jobs. Since July 2009, Canada has created almost 180,000 new jobs.
“While these numbers are encouraging the global recovery remains fragile, and it is for this reason that jobs and growth remain our government’s top priority,” concluded Toews.
