Shortly before 9am today, RCMP were dispatched to the North Perimeter (101) in the RM of East St. Paul, where cattle had reportedly fallen off a trailer on the Perimeter Highway.

RCMP Headingley Traffic Services were joined by the RCMP East St. Paul Detachment to assist.

RCMP members responded and located about 6 cows wandering about the area between Lagimodiere Boulevard and Henderson Highway. With the assistance of the owner and several police officers, the cows were successfully located, corralled and put back onto the trailer without incident.

It appears that driver was heading westbound on 101 when the trailer became unsecured and cattle began jumping out onto the road. While some cattle have reportedly been shaken by the entire episode, none perished.

The 81-year-old driver from Vermette, Manitoba, has been charged for operating a motor vehicle with an unsecured load under the Highway Traffic Act.

RCMP report that minimal traffic disruptions occurred.
