On January 22, 2009 at approximately 6:54 pm, Selkirk RCMP were informed of a two vehicle collision on Highway 8, 3.5 kilometres south of Highway 67, in the Rural Municipality of St. Andrews.
Investigation revealed that a 2002 Pontiac Grand Am was north bound on Highway 8. The driver and only occupant of the Grand Am lost control on the icy road, crossed into the south bound lane and collided with a south bound 2002 Ford F150 pick-up truck containing four occupants from Red Sucker Lake, Manitoba.
The four occupants from the pick-up were transported to the hospital for treatment and are reported to be in stable condition. The driver of the Grand Am was pronounced dead at the scene.
The name of the deceased is not being released pending notification of next of kin.
Alcohol is not considered a factor. Poor visibility and extreme weather conditions are considered contributing factors.
No additional information is available at this time. The investigation continues.
