Manitoba Water Stewardship advises the Red River Floodway gates will be operated late this afternoon, to move water into the diversion system and help control levels of the Red River in Winnipeg as a result of heavy rainfall.
Earlier today, the province indicated it would not operate the floodway. However, updated data and concerns expressed by the City of Winnipeg resulted in a revaluation and the decision. A small operation to restore and maintain natural water levels at the floodway inlet will be conducted late this afternoon. The situation will be re-evaluated tomorrow.
