On January 24, 2009 at about 4 p.m., Selkirk RCMP were dispatched to a two vehicle collision at the junction of Highway 9 and 44.

RCMP attended the scene, assisted by local EMS and Fire Department, and established that a northbound Buick Century sedan was struck by a southbound GMC cargo van making a left turn heading eastbound on Highway 44. Both vehicles had extensive front end damage.

The two occupants of the Buick Century, who are Gimli area residents, were taken to Selkirk Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the van, a 62-year-old Winnipeg resident, was arrested and taken into custody at the scene for impaired driving and will face charges of refusing to provide breath samples and impaired driving causing bodily harm.
