An Opaskwayak Cree Nation man traveling on a Greyhound bus has been arrested after RCMP noticed that a hatchet was being concealed in his pants.
 
On June 17, 2010, at approximately 8pm, The Pas RCMP were conducting an unrelated check of an incoming Greyhound Bus arriving in The Pas. During the course of this investigation, Police observed a de-boarding male passenger acting suspiciously and upon further investigation determined that he was in possession of mace, a hatchet and a large quantity of prescription pills. The hatchet was concealed in his pants.
 
The male identified as 34-year-old Alexander Francis Harris, a resident of Opaskwayak Cree Nation, was subsequently arrested, charged and remanded in custody. Harris has been charged for possessing a weapon dangerous to public peace, carrying a concealed weapon and breach of probation. He will be appearing in The Pas Court on Monday, June 21, 2010.
 
Another passenger traveling with Harris, 31-year-old Vincent Edward Lathlin of Moose Lake, MB, was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for his arrest for uttering a forged document related to forged medical prescriptions and breach of probation. Lathlin was also remanded in custody and will be appearing in The Pas Court on Monday, June 21st, 2010.
 
The bus originated in Winnipeg. However, Harris and Lathlin boarded the bus in Swan River, Manitoba.
