RCMP continue the search for a missing boater who remains unaccounted for after a boating mishap on the Valley River this past weekend.
The RCMP Dauphin Detachment with assistance from the RCMP Search and Rescue Team and the assistance of the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner, the Roblin Fire Department and the Dauphin Fire Department continue to search the river for the missing Gilbert Plains man.
The search teams consists of 14 trained searchers comprised of the RCMP Search and Rescue Team, the Dauphin and Roblin Fire Department and the Manitoba Office of the Fire Commissioner. Parkland EMS is also on scene as well as members from the Dauphin Detachment.
On Tuesday, searchers made every effort to cover 20 kilometres downstream and back to where incident occurred.
RCMP report that the search for the missing man continues today. There currently are no search boats in the water as the river remains extremely dangerous with the water level still high. At this time, the search has changed from a search and rescue to a search and recovery.
Update 06/23/10 2pm
The body of 30-year-old Kelly David Kulcheski was recovered from the Valley River just before noon today. Kulcheski’s body was recovered near the location of where the boat capsized. The Dauphin RCMP thank all searchers, both professional and volunteer, who aided in the search over the last 3 days. The investigation into the accident continues.
