The City of Steinbach is looking forward to hosting a larger celebration in honour of Canada this July 1st, thanks in large part to a grant from the Government of Canada’s Department of Canadian Heritage, Celebrate Canada Program.
“We learned a month ago that our event plans had been approved for a grant in the amount of $7,000”, said Amber Reitsma, Communications Coordinator for the City of Steinbach. “So we are preparing to distribute Canada Day cupcakes, red and white glowsticks, and other Canada Day handouts to all those in attendance. Its going to be a party in honour of our country and community.”
In past years, the City’s Canada Day celebration has only had fireworks. This year, from 9pm-10pm at the Soccer Park, volunteers will be handing out Canada Day cupcakes, paper handheld flags, red and white glowsticks, tattoos and pins. The fireworks display will begin around 10:45pm.
Best places for viewing the fireworks will be in the soccer park, L.A. Barkman Park (Abes Hill), along Giesbrecht Street, Bushfarm Road, and along Highway 52 West as the fireworks will be launched from within the Soccer Park, behind the Southland Community Church.
Bring the whole family out for a fantastic evening!
