Tennis players may be a little bored for the next month or so, but three brand new playing surfaces should hopefully make up for it.
City of Steinbach Parks and Rec staff began taking down the fencing around the tennis courts at the corner of Lumber Avenue and Third Street today to provide access for Cords Park Mark to begin demolition of the courts next Monday. Over the next month or so, the courts will be re-graded, resurfaced, repainted and new fencing and net posts will be erected. The courts are being expanded by nine feet to allow for three doubles courts. Currently, there are two doubles courts and one singles court.
The tennis court renewal project is estimated to cost $140,000 with a Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC) grant covering one third of the cost, up to $50,000.
