Gimli RCMP are reporting a safe and successful weekend in Gimli for the Icelandic Festival held over the August Long Weekend.

Attendance was high at this year’s festival as the weather was hot and sunny. Police maintained a strong presence in the community through vehicle, foot and bicycle patrols and took a pro-active approach to enforcing the Liquor Control Act and the Highway Traffic Act.

Over the course of the Festival weekend, police lodged 20 prisoners, matching last year’s total, which was a ten year low in this category. A total of 67 charges under the Liquor Control Act and 46 charges under the Highway Traffic Act were laid in addition to two 24 hour driving suspensions, 6 charges of impaired driving and one charge of refusing a breath demand.

Police are happy to report that there were no major incidents at this year’s festival.
