On August 15, 2010, at about 7pm, Lynn Lake RCMP were advised of a boating accident on Hughes Lake, Manitoba.
Investigation revealed that one woman and three men were traveling by canoe on Hughes Lake when the craft was swamped by high waves. Witness reports indicate life jackets were not in use at the time.
A 32-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were able to make their way to shore, however, the other two men, aged 43 and 34 were not able to make it to the shore and are presumed drowned.
All four are residents of Lynn Lake, Manitoba.
Search efforts are underway to locate the missing boaters and the RCMP Underwater Recovery Team are expected to arrive this afternoon to assist.
There were no other persons reported to be involved.
Names are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Police continue to investigate.
