On February 3, 2009 around 3:00 PM Portage la Prairie RCMP received a call for assistance at St. Ambroise Provincial Park.
A group of friends were ice-fishing on the lake when the weather started to become severe. The group of friends, all adult men, only had one snowmobile between them, and took turns shuttling back and forth from the fishing site to the shore. The snowmobile broke down, and they were unable to go back out for the last member of the group. Portage la Prairie RCMP and Emergency services were already on scene with a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 1 and were unable to attend. Amaranth RCMP members responded with trucks and snowmobiles. While police were en route, the original complainant was contacted and he advised that the lost male had been located.
No injuries were sustained and the group of friends were already on their way back home to Morden, MB.
No organized search was required, nor did one take place.
