On October 8, 2010, Lac du Bonnet RCMP received a 911 call from a fisherman who had become lost in Nopiming Provincial Park.

Investigation revealed that a 50-year-old man from Winnipeg had become lost after leaving his canoe at Mink Lake and walking into an adjacent lake to fish. When he returned, he could not locate his canoe.

The man contacted RCMP via cell phone, but could not be located by GPS tracking. He was able to build a temporary shelter and make a fire and spent the night safely.

The next morning Lac du Bonnet RCMP made patrols of the area by helicopter and located the man in the late morning. He had made a large fire and searchers were able to see the smoke.

The man was found to be uninjured and in good health. He was transported to Lac du Bonnet to make arrangements to have his canoe picked up.
