In the month since the program was announced, more than 10,000 Manitoba Hydro customers have signed up to receive a free Power Smart* Water and Energy Saver Kit.
The kits contain low-flow showerheads, faucet aerators and insulating pipe wrap. The low-flow technology is up to 40 per cent more efficient than other low-flow or standard devices in the market today. With assistance from Water Stewardship Manitoba, kits are available at no charge to residential customers with a Manitoba Hydro account.
“I applaud the Manitobans who are stepping up to make their homes more energy and water efficient. They know it helps their pocket book and the environment,” said Rosann Wowchuk, Minister Responsible for Manitoba Hydro. “Providing accessible programs like this is the reason Manitoba has become one of the top ranked provinces in the country for energy efficiency.”
“We’re thrilled that Manitobans have taken so enthusiastically to the Water and Energy Saver Program,” said Manitoba Hydro President and CEO Bob Brennan. “Water heating is the second largest use of energy in a household next to space heating. With this new water and energy saving initiative along with other Power Smart programs we will continue our commitment to being leaders in the energy conservation arena.”
Customers who install a Power Smart Water and Energy Saver Kit can save up to an estimated $35 per year on their residential energy bills and approximately 9,500 litres of water annually.
Manitoba Hydro customers can still order a Water and Energy Saver Kit through Eco-fitt’s website or by calling them at 1-877-ECO-FITT (1-877-326-3488.) Read more about the Power Smart Water & Energy Savings program.
