On October 26, 2010, at about 4pm, Swan river RCMP as well as local fire and ambulance were dispatched to the scene of a 5 car collision on Highway 10, approximately 5 miles east of Swan River, Manitoba.

Investigation revealed that an eastbound vehicle, a 2004 Ford Explorer, lost control and went into the ditch on the south side of Highway 10, rolling over at least once. A motorist stopped to offer assistance and a chain reaction collision involving several other vehicles occurred.

In total there were 5 vehicles involved, including a 2002 Chevrolet Venture, 1996 Dodge Caravan, 1996 Ford Explorer, 2004 Ford Explorer and a 1999 Ford Windstar.

There were a total of 12 occupants in the 5 vehicles, 3 men, 8 women and a 3 year old girl. All were examined and treated for injuries sustained in the collision. The injuries are reported to be non life threatening.

Highway conditions at the time of the collision were reported to be wet and slush covered. The roadway is described as level and straight.

Alcohol is not considered to be a factor and seatbelts were in use at the time of the collision. The highway was closed to traffic for about one hour.

The RCMP would like to remind motorists that with the arrival of snow and wet weather, to be mindful of road conditions and to drive accordingly.

Police continue to investigate.
