On November 8, 2010, at about 8:30am, Lac du Bonnet RCMP and C.N. Police were dispatched to the scene of a train and motor vehicle collision on Lewis Road in the RM of Reynolds.
Investigation revealed that a 2010 Chevrolet Avalanche had been traveling southbound on Lewis Road when it was struck by a westbound freight train.
Initial reports indicate the driver had stopped before entering the controlled crossing, only noticing the oncoming train while crossing the railway tracks. The driver accelerated, and the train struck the rear portion on the vehicle.
The 38-year-old male driver and his 43-year-old male passenger were transported to hospital for examination of minor injuries. The driver is facing charges under the highway traffic act.
No other persons or vehicles were involved in this collision. Police remind motorists to use caution when approaching or crossing railway lines.
