Manitoba’s provincial campgrounds experienced an increase in reservations this year, despite the wettest summer and fall in Manitoba in almost 30 years, Conservation Minister Bill Blaikie announced today.
“We are pleased to see more campers using our beautiful Manitoba campgrounds even though the record rains in the summer and fall may have kept some people away,” said Blaikie.
According to parks reservation service statistics, there were 62,745 reservations this year, up by slightly more than one per cent over 2009. The number of reservations was up more than 25,900 or more than 70 per cent since 2005 when the reservation system was introduced.
Improvements to Manitoba’s provincial campgrounds completed this year include:
• 65 new campsites, some with water and electrical plug-ins, added to Wellman Lake campground in Duck Mountain Provincial Park;
• 20 new full-service campsites at Rivers Provincial Park campground;
• new shower facilities at Birds Hill, Childs Lake, Nutimik Lake and Wellman Lake campgrounds;
• new washroom facilities at West Beach in Grand Beach Provincial Park; and
• resurfacing of the bike trails at Birds Hill Park.
