On November 13, 2010, at 6:30am, Prairie Mountain RCMP Detachment responded to a complaint of an intoxicated male armed with a Samurai sword.

RCMP report that the incident occurred outside a residence on Gambler FN, 27 kilometres south of Russell, Manitoba.

After stabbing the door several times with the sword, the man gained access to the residence moments before Russell and WayWayseecappo Detachment members arrived. He was known to occupants of the house, who assisted police in securing the man and the sword.

RCMP report that no injuries were sustained during the incident. Further investigation lead police to the seizure of an additional 5 swords at the man’s nearby residence.

18-year-old Desmond Dean Tanner of Gambler FN was arrested for break and enter with intent, in addition to weapons offences. Tanner was remanded in custody, appearing in Brandon provincial court November 15, 2010 and then released from custody on a recognizance, to appear November 22, 2010 in Russell Provincial Court.
