Manitoba RCMP have checked over 600 vehicles in the first weekend of the Holiday Check Stop program.
In total, 8 drivers throughout the Province were arrested for impaired driving. In addition, there were a number of 24 hour suspensions and numerous Highway Traffic Act charges, including failure to wear seatbelts.
There was one fatal motor vehicle collision in which alcohol is considered to be a factor.
The RCMP Check Stop program will continue throughout the holiday season. Motorists are reminded to find an alternate means of getting home if they have been drinking. Take a cab, have a designated driver, use Operation Red Nose.
Remember, impaired driving is completely preventable.
