From December 3 to 12, 2010, the RCMP Holiday Check Stop Program has resulted in numerous charges.

• 6455 vehicles checked throughout the Province of Manitoba during 172 check stops.

• This has resulted in 36 persons being charged with Impaired Driving, or Drive Over .08

• An additional 5 persons were charged with Refusal.

• There were 23 – (24 hour) alcohol related roadside suspensions.

• 46 persons were charged with failing to wear seatbelts.

• As well, there were 464 other traffic related Provincial Statute Charges laid.

• There has been one fatal motor vehicle collision where alcohol is considered to be a factor. This occurred December 3, 2010, near Swan River, Manitoba.

Over the same period during last years Holiday Check Stop Program, 42 persons were charged with impaired driving related offences, and there were 27 – (24 hour) alcohol related roadside suspensions.

RCMP remind the public that impaired driving is completely preventable.
