Minister Toews is further encouraged by the prospects of employment for young people in Provencher thanks to significant investments made by the Stephen Harper Conservative government.
Students across Provencher will see an increase in job opportunities thanks to an additional permanent investment of $10 million dollars into Canada Summer Jobs programs across Canada. This raises the total budget of the program to $107.5 million dollars.
“Ensuring students are offered the opportunities to gain valuable summer work experience is important for their future employment prospects,” said Minister Toews. “This announcement is not only a welcome investment in job creation and the future of our youth, but also our economic prosperity.”
The funding will be available to not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses to create high-quality summer job opportunities for young people aged 15 to 30 years who are full-time students and intend to return to school in the next school year.
The Economic Action Plan is supporting Canada’s economic recovery. Since July of last year, Canada has created over 441 000 new jobs. We know the economic climate remains tenuous and continue to focus our energies in this crucial area.
“Given the winter season, we know that the summer may seem a long way off,” concluded Minister Toews. “However, I encourage youth to apply as soon as possible in order to take advantage of the available summer job opportunities.”
Applications for employers will be available on February 1, 2011 and must be submitted by February 28, 2011. Interested employers can apply online or at their local Service Canada Centre.
Canada Summer Jobs is an important part of the Government’s long-term Youth Employment Strategy, which helps young people get the tools, skills and work experience they need to make a successful transition to the workplace.
