This past December, Little Grand Rapids RCMP Detachment in partnership with Little Grand Rapids Child and Family Services began a skate drive in order to supply skates to community youth ranging in age from 5 to 15-year-olds.

The initiative organized by Cst. Jeff Ryan of RCMP Little Grand Rapids set a goal of collecting approximately 60 pairs of skates by January 01, 2011.

A challenge was sent out to all RCMP Manitoba East District Detachments and due to the overwhelming response and participation by Manitoba East District Detachments, approximately 300 pairs of skates along with a variety of hockey equipment was collected.

The additional skates and equipment collected during this initiative will now be used to supply additional youth in other northern communities with recreational opportunities.

Superintendent Scott Kolody states “What turned out to be a small request to collect skates and equipment for Little Grand Rapids has turned into an overwhelming response solely due to the dedicated efforts of our RCMP Members in the Manitoba East District”.
