On January 14, 2011, officers from the Dauphin Municipal RCMP detachment were called to a local hotel as a patron was in the bar selling cigarettes to other patrons.
When officers attended and approached the suspect, they saw him try to discard a number of pieces of identification and credit cards that were not his. The man was found to be on probation and was arrested.
Investigators determined that the identification had been stolen from an unlocked vehicle earlier in the afternoon and that one of the stolen credit cards had been used to buy cigarettes at a Dauphin gas station.
31-year-old Kristopher Garry Ranville of Dauphin, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime, breach of probation and 4 counts of fraud and has been remanded in custody to appear in Dauphin Court.
A second male was arrested and has been released on a promise to appear for court on March 8, 2011.
