On February 16, 2011, at about 1am, Virden and Reston RCMP, as well as local Fire Services and EMS were dispatched to the scene of a single vehicle collision on the Trans Canada Highway.

The scene of the collision was approximately 8 km west of Virden, Manitoba.

Investigation revealed that an eastbound semi trailer had turned on its side, blocking both lanes of the Trans Canada Highway.

The two occupants of the vehicle, both adult males, were transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The Highway was closed and traffic was forced to detour till around 4am, when one lane was reopened to eastbound traffic.

Local emergency services were quickly able to contain a small diesel spill from a fuel tank at the scene. The truck was not reported to be carrying any dangerous goods.

There were no other vehicles or persons reported to be involved in this collision.

Road conditions were reported as good and driver error is considered a factor in the collision at this time.
