Grade seven and eight students from Ecole Gabrielle Roy in St-Pierre-Jolys, were among those participating in a recent RCMPTalks session on bullying and cyberbullying.

The RCMP believe that education and awareness are key to helping youth, parents, teachers and police prevent and reduce incidences of bullying.

Steinbach MLA and PC Education Critic, Kelvin Goertzen, today received copies of letters sent to NDP Premier Greg Selinger expressing concern about Bill 18 from leaders in Winnipeg’s Jewish, Coptic, Sikh and Muslim community.

The provincial government wants to hear from Manitoba students on how schools can prevent bullying and will support the implementation of a new provincewide, online survey, Tell Them From Me (TTFM), which will allow schools to hear directly from students about bullying and help them make schools safer for all students.

Bullying is deeply hurtful to students and destructive to the culture of schools. All forms of bullying, whether verbal, physical or electronic, often leave painful scars that take considerable time to heal.

Protecting students from bullying in school, on the street and on the internet is an important priority for the provincial government.

Working together to create school communities where students feel safe and can reach their full potential is a key to eliminating bullying, Education Minister Nancy Allan said, as she proclaimed Nov. 13-19 Bullying Awareness Week.
