The province’s low-cost bicycle helmet program, which has distributed more than 80,000 helmets to Manitoba children and their families, has been renewed for another year.
Proposed legislation would improve the safety of cyclists younger than 18 by requiring them to wear a properly fitted and fastened protective helmet, certified for use when riding a bicycle.
Proposed amendments would expand the Highway Traffic Act to boost forms of active transportation and help create designated bicycle pathways on existing roads, said Local Government Minister Ron Lemieux after introducing the legislation.
