A Saskatchewan based feed consultant says swine producers are shying away from dried distillers grains with solubles in favor of the more traditional locally produced feed ingredients to improve carcass quality.

An Alberta based feed research scientist is advising pork producers to ship market hogs fed diets containing high inclusions of wheat dried distillers grains with solubles at slightly higher weights.

Research being conducted at the University of Manitoba will allow livestock nutritionists to maximize the nutritional value of the by-products of ethanol production.
