Twenty-seven Manitoba schools are receiving a portion of a $10,000 grant for special music projects and events in April, which is Celebrating Music in Manitoba Schools month, Education Minister Nancy Allan announced.

The Manitoba Farm Writers and Broadcasters’ Association (MFWBA) has presented its inaugural Agricultural Awareness Award to Agriculture in the Classroom Manitoba, recognizing its effective “hands-on” approach to educating children about farming and food.

The Manitoba government is once again exceeding its commitment to fund public education at the rate of economic growth with a 2.95 percent increase to public school funding, Education Minister Nancy Allan announced.

Projects raising awareness of human rights, teaching youth about the parliamentary process and promoting empathy and community volunteerism are among those receiving one of 20 grants to support innovative citizenship education projects, Healthy Living, Youth and Seniors Minister Jim Rondeau announced.

Education, Citizenship and Youth Minister Peter Bjornson announced today that $20,000 will again be available for school science projects designed to encourage careers in science and technology.

Manitoba students in grades 9 and 11 will learn about residential schools through new classroom resources that include personal interviews with survivors, Education, Citizenship and Youth Minister Peter Bjornson announced.

The province has committed $11.4 million in new funding to support new child-care sites, revitalize centres, create more spaces, hire more workers, enhance child safety and develop a curriculum framework, Family Services and Housing Minister Gord Mackintosh announced.

The Honourable Gary Goodyear, Canada’s Minister of State (Science and Technology), along with the Honourable Vic Toews, President of the Treasury Board of Canada, the Honourable Diane McGifford, Manitoba Minister of Advanced Education and Literacy, and the Honourable Ron Lemieux, Manitoba Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation, announced investments in 10 projects at post-secondary institutions throughout Manitoba.

The Manitoba government will continue long-term efforts to ensure quality post-secondary education is affordable and accessible by boosting its investment to bursary and access programs by $2.5 million while approving regulated increases in tuition next year, Advanced Education and Literacy Minister Diane McGifford announced.
